I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology from the University of Kentucky, finishing in 1996. From there I began what became a 25-year career working for a community mental health center which would change me in profound ways, both as a therapist and as a person. Through the years, I have worked with children and adults with so many different issues, but have found that we all share in common a desire and the ability to heal, no matter what our wounds. I have had the honor of helping people in so many journeys to cope with immense trauma, childhood abuse, anxiety, depression, suicide thoughts, and self-harm behaviors, ADHD, OCD, substance use, and much more. I have helped parents to deal with their children’s mental health issues and the many struggles of parenting, worked as director of a children’s intensive treatment program, and became a parent of three children myself! I have training in play therapy, trauma therapy, and PCIT (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy). I also have knowledge regarding LGBTQ issues and am a strong ally for this population. I have knowledge and understanding of the struggles of co-occurring mental health and substance use issues and currently serve as the chair for the local Boyle County ASAP Board, advancing understanding in the community in order to reduce stigma and get individuals the help and support they need for recovery.
