Children/Adolescent

We are equipped and prepared with a combined 50 years of experience in engaging and helping to facilitate improved mental health with children and families. We have had extensive training in play therapy, motivational interviewing, impact of trauma/adversity on the developing brain, and PCIT amongst many experiences that we believe prepare us to meet each expressed need in a person-centered fashion. We are also parents of three children and understand the many challenges that families can face. We look forward to helping your child and family to be able to successfully cope with whatever those challenges may be.

Men’s Issues

Chris emphasizes working with men of all ages. We have learned in this work that it can be especially difficult for men to seek out therapy. With my heightened sensitivity to men’s issues, I have been able to successfully provide a safe and nonthreatening environment that has resulted in men experiencing results in therapy who might otherwise have been reluctant to seek therapy services.

LGBTQ

We embrace ALL who seek services who may be navigating issues around sexual orientation and gender identity. We offer a safe place to assist individuals seeking an alliance that can assist with navigating whatever barriers and struggles they may be facing. We believe in each person’s ability to live a happy life where they can be themselves.

Adults

We welcome the opportunity to engage adults of any age who are seeking an environment where their life experiences are met with empathy and understanding - whether they encounter depression, anxiety, trauma histories, relationship conflict, family conflict, or other hardships. While we don’t market ourselves as a substance misuse program solely, we understand the impact that co-occurring behavioral health distress places on life satisfaction and are positioned to help folks on their recovery journey.

Trauma

We are especially invested in harnessing what current research and literature shows relative to the impact of early adversity on the developing brain and leveraging current interventions to help nurture and create an environment to help facilitate understanding and learning new ways to understand what might have happened and how to help folks integrate healthy knowledge into their life journey and not have their life be dictated by what has happened to them.

All services we offer have some connection to what research has determined to show evidence of a positive impact on making life changes. We are continually seeking and attending training and support to continually upgrade our combined knowledge base to make sure you are able to access the latest and most sound treatment that is informed in the most current, solid, and trustworthy research in the field.

Christopher D. Whitsell(Chris) LCSW

I want to meet you where you are in life, wherever that might be, and join with you to help overcome whatever barriers you might be encountering. My life’s work has been about connecting with others, helping them through difficult times, and attempting to motivate folks to experience fullness in their life, whatever that may be! On my journey, I have been able to learn from all types of people who have expanded my knowledge base and allowed me to learn what works in the field of behavioral health change. I have seen firsthand the importance of connecting with folks in a very humanistic way and doing the extra to treat others as I would want to be treated.

Christy L. Whitsell, M.S.

I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology from the University of Kentucky, finishing in 1996. From there I began what became a 25-year career working for a community mental health center which would change me in profound ways, both as a therapist and as a person. Through the years, I have worked with children and adults with so many different issues, but have found that we all share in common a desire and the ability to heal, no matter what our wounds. I have had the honor of helping people in so many journeys to cope with immense trauma, childhood abuse, anxiety, depression, suicide thoughts, and self-harm behaviors, ADHD, OCD, substance use and much more.
